Oh yes its ladies night…

We had a Mom’s Night In at my house this past weekend, it was a fabulous, well deserved break from the husbands and kids!

There were 7 of us that all met at my house and we ate yummy food and drank some adult beverages and didn’t have to worry about kids and what they might be getting into. It was great food, great drinks and even better conversation.

Something that none of us do nearly often enough…here are some fun pics from that night!

A Clean House

I don’t know why, but every time I feel like things are way out of control in my life, if I look around my house, my house is a complete WRECK! Why do the two always seem to go together? I have the best of intentions when it comes to my house and keeping to my routine of scheduled cleaning to help me not get overwhelmed, yet here I sit…again….with a house that is a total sty.

I am doing my best to get it all under control again and to be at that place again of knowing that if someone stops by unexpectedly I am not completely embarrassed by the state of my house.

So, in breaking it down into manageable chunks, which in my opinion is always the easiest way to actually accomplish that which I set out to do, here is my plan of attack:

Take Out The Trash!

This means anything that is garbage, not just the actual trash! Anything that we have been holding onto in the hopes of either fixing it, donating it, whatever. Its gone. History. 86’d. So far today we have taken out 6 bags of trash not including that TV that the picture just rolled…yeah.

Put It Away, Where It Goes!

This part is more difficult. Living in an apartment that has absolutely zero storage means that we have rubbermaid tubs of our stuff that should be in an attic or storage closet, in an actual closet in the office/toy room. It also means that of course there is no where near enough room in said closet to house all of our crap. So, it all spills out into the other closets. There are tubs in the master closet, Hannah’s closet and the two hall closets (linen and coat). This is after having a yard sale and donating what didn’t sell. That was 4 large tubs of ‘treasure’. So, now that everything is back where it goes, its on to the next step!

Chores!

Ah chores…most of the time I don’t mind doing my chores. However, when the house is as atrocious as it is right now, I would rather run away and join the circus than do my chores. Even though I know, once they are done, I will feel so much better, not only physically that I got up off my butt and did it, but I will feel better emotionally and mentally and spiritually, that my house is not cluttered and messy, its all where it should be and all is well with the world again. So…instead I am sitting here blogging about what I should be doing. Alright, wish me luck!

The LG Rumor

We got new cell phones a couple of months ago after being with Nextel for 4 years. After researching all the different cell phone companies and plans and new phones we switched over from Nextel to Sprint. I know, big change! Yeah, since they are the same company now, we didn’t have to pay deposits or anything and they had the phones we wanted.

So we both ended up getting the LG Rumor

I love my new phone! I have never loved a piece of electronic equipment the way I love this phone! It has a slider with a full keypad…that makes texting SO much easier! A built in camera/video recorder and an MP3 player! I had completely forgotten that it had the MP3 until tonight!! What rock have I been living under?! So my adoring husband loaded me up with some Sir MixAlot, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg….along with some Kenny Chesney and Leanne Rhimes smilies !

So if you see my driving along jammin out you will know why! I am boppin along to my new tunes!

Photography Challenge

So I have just started a photography challenge on my mommies site and I can’t wait to see how this goes! I have been so stressed lately and just busy with life that I haven’t used my camera for anything other than snapshots in a while and I miss it. I thought the photography challenge would be a great way to see what other people have to offer as far as advice and opinions and to just get back into my photography. Really excited about this! I will post my pic as soon as I take it! The first theme is ‘spring’, what says spring has arrived to you?

Faith

I have been a Christian for more than half of my life. I have gone to church for most of that time as well. For the past 8 years or so, I have not regularly attended any church. Does this make me a bad Christian? Does it make me a bad person? Bad wife? Bad mother? I don’t think so and I will tell you why…

I believe in God, I believe in the Bible. I believe that Jesus died for me (and for you!). I pray, I read the Bible. I am teaching my daughter to pray and teaching about God. I have FAITH and I BELIEVE. I just do not feel the need to go to church.

This morning I was up early, Hannah was still sleeping. I had laundry in the wash and in the dryer. I was just enjoying some quiet time. I decided to see what news or other interesting shows might be on. Well there wasn’t much let me tell you! But I did see Joel Osteen on so I put it on and opened a blank word document so I could take some notes if anything struck me. His message was on ‘A Resurrected Life’. Basically living life with the mentality that life is too short to play a victim.

A few things that he said struck a chord with me and I will share with you what and why…

  • You Are Not Defined By Your Past; You Are Prepared By Your Past

This spoke to me particularly because I think we all have things in our past that we are not proud of. I know I do. I think that everything I have gone through (whether because of my own choices, or things out of my control) are things that were used to prepare me for my future. I think I have been judged by people for choices I made and things I did, but its not anyones place to judge me first off, secondly, I wouldn’t trade my past. It has made me who I am today and I LIKE me! Do I want my daughter to make the same choices I made? No, but I do want her to know that even if she makes poor decisions, that she will not be defined by that past, but that it will help prepare her for what is in her future, no matter what that future might be.

  • It Didn’t Happen TO You; It Happened FOR You

I think this one takes a bit to understand and even more to actually accept. It plays into getting rid of the ‘victim mentality’. When you are a victim, everything that happens, bad or good, happens TO you. When you live life with the mentality that everything is a learning and growing experience, it happens FOR you! I am working on this one, its still hard, but I think its important.

I hope this helps some of you understand where I am coming from. I know we are all at different points in our faith and our relationships, but I think that no matter how long we have been friends or even if you don’t know me at all, I wanted to share where I am in my life, maybe it will help you, maybe it won’t and that is okay too.

Meeting New Friends

You know, I used to be a really social person! Up until the last 2 years. Now, I get really nervous and have a ton of anxiety about meeting new people. Fortunately this hasn’t rubbed off on Hannah!

We try to take Hannah out to the pool every day. She loves to swim and just loves being outside, and its good fun for us as well. Usually its only Sean that takes her out just because if there are people out there already, I tend to stay inside. But last night, I decided to go out with them and there were 2 older (as in older than me, but not older as in OLD) women. They were very nice and we all chatted in the hot tub and it was nice. As we were leaving Hannah says, ‘mama, you made some new friends! Wasn’t that fun’!

I really could learn from Hannah and her openness and willingness to meet new friends!

Photoshoot Day!

I try to have special photoshoot days with Hannah every month or so. I will do her hair all up and put some makeup on her and pick out a special outfit. She loves to glam it up! So today was that day!

Today was kinda cowgirl up day! She had a cute button down shirt on with blue jeans and pink cowgirl boots! Here are few of my very favorite shots!

Recharging The Batteries…Part 2

So, after giving this a couple of days to think about, I have discovered what I need to do to recharge my batteries!

There are a few things that have really helped me lately. I will now share my wisdom with you!

  • Get outside! I have been just getting outside and getting away from all electronic devices such as computers and cell phones and even home phones! The only thing I take with me is my camera. I go to the pool with Hannah and Sean and record us teaching her to swim, and take self pics of the three of us for the scrapbook. I go outside and sit in the grass under a tree while a beautiful breeze is blowing and just watch Hannah run around and kick the soccer ball.
  • Taking photos! Just photos of everyday life. Whatever we are doing, taking pics and video. Hannah will not be small forever and I want to remember all these moments. I want to share them with everyone and so there are a few new YouTube video’s of her up now.
  • Blogging! I have discovered that for me, blogging is like free therapy! I have always wanted to write, but never thought I could or would be good at it, but you know what? I don’t care if I am not good at it, or if what I write makes absolutely no sense to anyone, for me, its good to let it out! I feel so much better after blogging that its just a release for me to let my feelings and emotions out and be healthy.

So, these are the things I have learned in the last few days. I am going to keep searching and learning more about myself and what makes ME happy! I am learning as I go and to me, that is what is important. That I continue to learn and grow and become a better version of myself and can be a better wife and mom and friend and daughter….
